Utopian Settlement

Dymaxia is the idea of building a community for Utopians to live in. It can be thought of as a small town. While it is nice to imagine something far greater, like a new futuristic city, it is just not a practical solution. Something of that magnitude is ambitious, to say the least, requiring significant funding and resources over a long period of time. So, while it’s not out of the question with other proposed projects like that of “Neom” in Saudi Arabia and “Telosa” planned to be somewhere located in the United States. It makes more sense to start small and keep building, with the town designed from the beginning to grow into a larger city. Most cities and areas where people live are at best designed to serve the people’s needs at any given moment. City planning, even when thinking about the future still must deal with the challenges of pre-existing infrastructure that may be outdated and or planned poorly. While it can be challenging to predict the needs of individuals in the future, we can do extensive planning and research to have the greatest level of foresight. With proper funding, it is easier to start planning a town or city from a clean slate than renovating an older environment.

As of 2019, 60.7% of Utah's population are Mormons, while this was almost 200 years in the making, it demonstrates the influence of a relatively new religious organization over an entire region. A major goal is to one day have a large, localized community of Utopians experience what it is like when we have a greater influence over our environment and way of life.

Utopian mass settlement of an area in the world would likely be in the United States. There are multiple prospective States that would be beneficial for various reasons but would need further research and planning prior to picking a location.

The name of Dymaxia is inspired by Buckminster Fuller’s term “Dymaxion” which is a portmanteau of the words dynamic, maximum, and tension. This word was the result of his holistic view and study of the concept of maximum gain of advantage from minimal energy input. Buckminster was an inventor, engineer, architectural designer, and humanitarian who created for the people. Dymaxia is a tribute to this special human being who pushed humanity in a positive direction with many thoughtful creations, some of which are particularly relevant to the above concept such as the Dymaxion House, Cloud Nine, Triton City, and the Old Man River’s City project.

Utopian city with a statement about how a global utopia may not be possible, but a Utopian community can exist.
