Utopian Metaverse

There is a great deal of talk about the metaverse these days, especially after Facebook’s announcement about being a metaverse company. As someone who is a VR (Virtual Reality) enthusiast, and has been since my youth, playing Dactyl Nightmare on a virtuality 1000CS system over 25 years ago, I knew that VR was a big deal even before I put on that first headset. As a gamer, the level of excitement I got from my first Virtual Reality experience was through the roof, I could not wait till this technology found its way into my home. Growing up I watched movies like Johnny Mnemonic and read books like Snow Crash. So, the idea of a metaverse was something I was thinking about well over a decade ago, like so many other VR enthusiasts. In fact, around ten years ago a good friend and I created a document mapping out what the metaverse experience could be. We submitted it to a large tech company for which we had respect at the time. Unfortunately to this day, that company has done very little in the space of VR. What is comforting is that unethical and poorly operated companies like Facebook will not have a monopoly over something so important. There will be many options in this space, with each metaverse provider serving a general demographic better than others. As a game developer and someone very passionate about this, I would like to be able to provide an alternative metaverse for social experiences in VR for our community and anyone interested, but also used as a tool for business and solving problems.

The metaverse may offer a promising avenue for the successful representation of a utopia.
