Parenthood / Family Planning & Parental Education / Reproducing

The USF encourages the idea of supporting and preparing those who want to become responsible loving parents. The USF also supports the idea of compulsory education for high school students to learn about the basics of planning for parenthood, as many will become parents regardless of any prior intention to do so. We believe that a better society is one where parenthood is reserved only for those who are doing it for the right reasons and are committed to raising their child in a healthy and loving way. The USF recommends that good parents should have as many children as they can support. One might argue against this idea as we have a global overpopulation problem, and many children alive today are struggling and need homes/parents, which are both valid points. I think we are only considered overpopulated because we have not learned as a society to sustain our current population. However, if society operated more intelligently, then I believe our population could be much higher than analysts speculate is possible. Especially when considering that space colonization could allow for the importing of off-planet resources, and that technology for creating vast amounts of clean renewable energy does exist. Realistically, Utopians would not be having any more kids than the national average of any region, and likely will follow the general trend of people having less children in prosperous nations. Over the last 50 years the global fertility rate has halved.

Many considerations go into planning to be a good parent and general family planning. This is an essential responsibility for people who think they may have children. Some responsibilities include reading and studying about childhood development, having a reliable and sufficient income, understanding the importance of nutrition and eating well while pregnant, and being aware of your family medical history to properly assess the situation to help prepare for related challenges. We advise living a healthy lifestyle, practicing Utopian values, and being a positive role model and co- leader in your family. The USF encourages and supports adoption, but that has its own set of challenges for which parents must be prepared.

Being a good parent is arguably one of the single greatest responsibilities a person can have. As one could argue that if all those that reproduced excelled at parenting, our society would be a significantly better experience for everyone. While there is a great amount of preparation needed prior to parenthood, once you are a parent the learning and the hard work continue in order to be the best parent you can be. One very important aspect of parenting an individual should embrace is to break the cycle of ignorance and bad parenting habits that can often impact families for generations. This starts with reflecting on how you were raised, and being honest with yourself about your habits, and what practices would be best for raising your children.

Marriage / Divorce

Utopian Survivalism supports same-sex marriage. The USF also supports those that want to marry outside of their religion/ideology. We believe that marriage and divorce are both personal choices between the individuals involved in the relationship. We don’t encourage or discourage marriage, but from an objective perspective, clearly there are legal and tax benefits that one would otherwise not have unless married. Research has also shown that married people experience better health than single people. Married people also tend to live longer, have fewer strokes and heart attacks, and are able to survive a major operation more often. Married people have a lower chance of becoming depressed and are less likely to have advanced cancer at the time of diagnosis as well as being more likely to survive cancer for a longer period of time.

Domestic Partner / Significant Other

Close relationships such as that of a domestic partner and or significant other are one of the best aspects of life when these types of relationships are healthy, and built on a foundation of trust, mutual respect, and caring for one another. Relationships are complex and have different meanings to different people, it’s important to communicate expectations so that everyone is on the same page. Besides good communication, relationships need everyone involved continuously making the necessary effort to be a good partner.

Love

The mental and emotional state of love is complex. There are many different types of love, such as romantic, friendly, self, familial, and more. It’s important to understand what love is in order to have a healthy love. Experiencing love is arguably the greatest feeling and state a human being can attain.

LGBTQ+

We welcome, support, and accept those in the LGTBQ+ community as well as those who identify in ways that are different from the majority that is unrelated to sexuality.
